GEO: get recommended when customers ask AI instead of Google

A growing share of buying research now starts with an AI assistant. Most Sri Lankan businesses are completely invisible to it.

01The problem

Think about how you looked something up last week. There is a decent chance you asked ChatGPT or Gemini rather than opening Google and scanning results. Your customers are doing the same, in growing numbers, and the behaviour is shifting fastest among exactly the people with money to spend.

When someone asks an AI assistant to recommend a supplier in Colombo, it does not show ten blue links. It names two or three businesses. If you are not one of them, you were not outranked: you were never in the conversation, and the customer never learned you exist.

This is what Generative Engine Optimization addresses. It overlaps with SEO but is not the same work: instead of competing for a position on a results page, you are making sure AI systems can read you, understand what you do, trust the information, and reproduce it accurately when it matters.

We build every site to be readable and citable by these systems as standard. It is also the area we know best: we have worked directly with AI visibility platforms that measure exactly this, so we see what moves the needle across a lot of brands, not just our own.

02What's included

AI visibility baseline

We test what ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity currently say about you and your competitors. Most businesses have never seen this, and it is usually a shock.

Entity clarity

Making sure AI systems know precisely who you are, where you operate and what you do, consistently, everywhere they look.

Structured data

Comprehensive, accurate schema markup. This is the machine-readable layer these systems lean on most heavily.

Citable content

Content structured the way AI systems prefer to quote: direct answers, clear attribution, specific verifiable facts rather than marketing adjectives.

Consistency across the web

Your name, address, phone and description matching everywhere they appear. Contradictions make you look unreliable to a system deciding whether to cite you.

Monitoring over time

AI answers change constantly. We track how yours move and adjust, rather than treating it as a one-off task.

This is for you if

  • Businesses in considered-purchase categories, where customers research before buying
  • B2B companies whose buyers research extensively before making contact
  • Brands that already rank on Google and want to hold position as search behaviour shifts
  • Anyone who has asked ChatGPT about their own industry and not seen their name

Probably not, if

If your customers find you by walking past your shop, this is not where your money should go yet. GEO matters most when there is a research step before the purchase.

05Questions
Is GEO just SEO with a new name?

They overlap, but no. SEO competes for a position in a list of links. GEO is about being the source a generated answer draws from and names. Some of the groundwork is shared (clean technical foundations help both), but the content strategy and how you measure success are genuinely different.

Does this actually matter in Sri Lanka yet?

It is earlier here than in the US or Europe, which is exactly the argument for starting now. The businesses establishing themselves as the answer in their category today will be very hard to displace once everyone else notices.

How do you measure whether it is working?

We track how often you appear in AI answers to relevant questions, whether the description is accurate, and how you compare to competitors, tested repeatedly across platforms rather than assumed.

Can you guarantee ChatGPT will recommend my business?

No. These systems are non-deterministic and change without notice: the same question can produce different answers on different days. What we can do is make you the most readable, most consistent, most citable option in your category, which is what moves the odds.
